At DC SCORES, we have 20 years of examples that demonstrate the power of teamwork.
Each fall, students are grouped together on teams at their schools. Many of them don't know each other. Many have never touched a soccer ball before. But through practicing daily and working together on a service-learning project, the kids learn how to better interact with each other.
They become better at soccer. They become more efficient in what they do. Leaders emerge. They create change in their communities.
In a much smaller sense, that's what the DC SCORES Cup begets. The charity soccer tournament -- this year's 12th edition is June 14 -- brings together more than 30 DC-area companies and law firms at the Maryland SoccerPlex for an action-packed day of soccer games, camaraderie, and team-building.
Some teams have been together before, but many have not. Friendships are formed. Connections are made. And the quality of soccer improves throughout the day, even as legs get tired.
Your company can be a part of the DC area's largest charity soccer tournament. Sign up before March 31 (no payment required at registration) and receive a $1,000 discount for your team. Not only that, but the entire team fee benefits DC SCORES, giving low-income youth in the District that ever-valuable opportunity to play on a sports team growing up.

The Advisory Board Company team takes a break from the action during the 2013 DC SCORES Cup! |
"Each year we’re reminded that the DC SCORES Cup represents so much more than a great tournament full of competitive soccer — it’s a team-building experience that creates lasting bonds, an enormous amount of fun, and a fantastic opportunity to help support our community through the phenomenal work of the DC SCORES program.”
— Bryan Stephany, Kirkland & Ellis LLP
"The Advisory Board is a large company, and playing in the Cup last year allowed me to get to know people in other departments. It's great to have ready contacts all over the organization."
— Marisa Deline, The Advisory Board Company
“Our company became involved with DC SCORES and the SCORES Cup to raise a little money for a good cause, and what we found was an event that we used for team building and a way to help people stay fit. While we have only been around them for a couple of years, it is already the talk of the company; we even tell candidates for hire that we have a soccer team that participates in a charity event as a hiring tool! The benefits of creating a team are innumerable to both employees and the employer!”
— Barton Bishop, Sport and Spine Rehab
------------------------
The DC SCORES Cup is designed for anyone interested in playing a little soccer and supporting a great cause. There are two divisions -- casual and competitive -- and team members tell us every year after they've played their last game that they had a great time.
Even teams that go 0-5.
It's not difficult to field a team. The games are 7v7 co-ed (two of each gender required), and teams receive 15 company-customized T-shirts. But there's no minimum or maximum number of players. If your employees are in great shape and want to play every minute of every game, bring seven or eight. If your company has employees just interested in hanging out together on a warm summer Saturday and watching soccer, bring 30.
Or as PricewaterhouseCoopers has done the past three years, enter two teams!
There are innumerable ways for employees to enjoy the DC SCORES Cup besides just the soccer. And we can guarantee that regardless of whether you return to the office with a trophy or just sore legs, you and your co-workers will look back on the tournament as an experience that brought you closer together.
Sign up your company or firm before March 31 and join our field of 36 teams. Come June 14, you'll reap the benefits alongside more than 500 other DC professionals.
