It's much more than that.
To students in DC SCORES, having a school uniform — custom jersey, shorts, shinguards and socks — give them a sense of identity. It makes them proud to represent their school. It connects them with their peers and teachers. It's a form of acceptance.
"It represents my school," said Amari A. of Burrville Elementary School, which has had DC SCORES since 2000. "And the colors show what my school is all about."Whether students are on the soccer field playing together or working as one — while decked out in their custom shirts — on stage at the Poetry Slam!, the uniform is at the core of DC SCORES' mission to build teams.
On Thursday, June 19, you can help us achieve our goal of building 12 new teams by providing the gift of a soccer uniform (or two!) to a DC child currently lacking a team. Simply make a $24 donation HERE during the day. We also encourage you to share the message (Tweet @DCSCORES & share our Facebook message) and ask friends and family to give.
