Poetry Slam! performance of the week: H.D. Cooke Elementary School

Each Wednesday during the year, we will highlight one of the 41 performances from the 16th Annual DC SCORES Poetry Slam! that took place Dec. 4-5, 2013. The event is the largest youth poetry slam in the District and highlights the original poems of our 1,500 youth. To view any performance from the Poetry Slam!, visit our YouTube channel. You can also read recaps of the event on our blog: WestsideEastside

Today we highlight H.D. Cooke Elementary School, which began the two-night event with a fun, creative and positive performance about love, food, and being proud of themselves. The students walked onto the stage carrying pots and pans, which they used to demonstrate which foods are their favorites during their "My food, my Country, Me" poem.

"My love is your love, and your love is my love" was the theme of the Bulls' first poem, and they completed their performance with a poem about being proud of whoever you are. It was an appropriate way to kick off a night that would see 22 diverse performances at Cardozo Education Campus.
