One week from today, 750 students throughout the District will finish their last hour of classes – but not leave school.
Rather, groups of 30 students at 18 elementary and seven middle schools will head for the classrooms of their DC SCORES coaches, ready to engage in creative writing exercises and play soccer.
Yes, next Monday marks the beginning of the 2010-11 DC SCORES programming year – our 16th since the program began in Marie Reed Learning Center in 1994.
We’re not waiting until Monday, however, to get excited about the season. Rather, we’re gathering this Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Social bar in Columbia Heights (3400 block of 14th Street) for the DC SCORES Back to School Bash.
Come join staff members, our writing and soccer coaches, and others for not only the chance to learn more about DC SCORES and how you can get involved with the organization if interested, but an easy opportunity to directly support our program – by drinking and eating.
That’s right – Social has generously offered to donate 10 percent of the happy hour’s proceeds back to our organization. And the bar is offering the following amazing specials as well:
$10/7 Corona Pony Buckets
$18 Pitchers of Margaritas, Sangrias, or Superfly
$1 PBRs
$2 Bud Lights, Miller Lites
$3 Stellas
$3 rail highballs
$4 house wines
$4 appetizers
So come hang out with DC SCORES Thursday at Social bar. There’s no better way to get ready for the fall season than with cheap food and drinks to benefit the 750 poet-athletes spread throughout the District.
