Register now for the 2010 DC SCORES Cup

For soccer fans, this month is the greatest. Every four years, you get to enjoy day after day of World Cup action – the best 32 teams from around the world putting it all on the line for a chance at the FIFA gold trophy.

So how could a soccer aficionado make this month even better? By getting out on the pitch and winning a trophy themselves, of course.

A day before the World Cup final, on Saturday, July 10, is the eighth annual DC SCORES Cup tournament. And we’re still looking for teams to fill the last few spots in both our Corporate and Recreational brackets.

The deadline to register a team is this Friday, so make sure you contact Jake Lloyd at jlloyd@americascores.org or 202.393.6999 x301 before then.

The coed 7v7 tournament will be held at the Maryland SoccerPlex, home of Women’s Professional Soccer’s Washington Freedom, beginning at 9 a.m. Teams of 15 must play at least two people of each gender at a given time during the 40-minute games on the complex’s turf fields. Each team will be placed in a group, World Cup style, and will play at least three games with a chance to advance and play more.

Registration for a Corporate team is $3,600 and for a Recreational team is $850, and 100 percent of the tournament’s proceeds benefit DC SCORES.

In addition to the games, tournament teams will receive the following benefits:

Corporate Bracket:
  • Trophy presentation for bracket winner during halftime of the July 24 Washington Freedom game
  • Bracket winner receives autographed Freedom mini soccer balls and other memorabilia
  • Logo featured on:
    • World Cup Bracket participant jerseys
    • Tournament T-shirts
  • Event signage at playing field and Washington Freedom field for July 24 game
  • 30 Washington Freedom tickets to July 24 game
  • 15 tickets to D.C. United game, where bracket winner receives trophy during halftime presentation
  • Name recognition on DC SCORES website, in DC SCORES brochure and in regional newsletter, SCORES SCOOP
Recreational Bracket:
  • Team of 15 guaranteed at least three games played on the Maryland SoccerPlex’s turf fields.
  • Tournament T-shirts
  • 30 Washington Freedom tickets to July 24 game
  • 10 D.C. United tickets
  • Winner of bracket recognized at halftime of Washington Freedom game
In addition, all teams are invited to a pre-tournament Draw Party June 24 at Public Bar (18th and Connecticut, NW) – where there will be Happy Hour specials – as well as a post-tournament party July 10 at a local restaurant near the SoccerPlex, where awards will be handed out and free drinks and food will be provided.

So don’t just watch soccer over the next month. Dust off the cleats and sign up for the SCORES Cup, which is sure to be a great tournament at an outstanding complex – and, of course, provides for a very worthy, soccer-based cause.
