Student profile and performance: Trenton S., Brookland Education Campus

NOTE: Each week, we are featuring a DC SCORES student who was one of six special performers at the Inspired Art Gala, held May 19 at the Carnegie Institution of Washington!. The students represent schools throughout the District and demonstrate how hard work in DC SCORES' writing workshops can result in a stunning finished product.

This week we highlight Trenton S. of Brookland Education Campus.

You won't find a more disciplined DC SCORES student than Trenton, who comes from a military family and gave a stirring performance with his poem, "A Special Thank You," dedicated to servicemen and women around the world.

Trenton is also a DC SCORES veteran, having been in the program for over four years. Through the weekly poetry workshops, he has learned to express feelings instead of letting them stack up inside him. Poetry is Trenton's way of letting his strong opinions be heard.

Trenton's leadership is most visible on the soccer field, where he "has greatly improved in every facet of the game," one of his teachers said. "He epitomizes everything that DC SCORES stands for ... leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork."

We wouldn't expect anything else from the aspiring Navy Seal.
