Student profile and performance: Ayanna V., Noyes Education Campus

NOTE: Beginning this week, we are featuring a DC SCORES student who was one of six special performers at the Inspired Art Gala, held May 19 at the Carnegie Institution of Washington!. The students represent schools throughout the District and demonstrate how hard work in DC SCORES' writing workshops can result in a stunning finished product.

First, we highlight Ayanna V., now a sixth grader at Noyes Education Campus.

Ayanna has been a star for DC SCORES ever since Noyes placed second at the Eastside Poetry Slam! at the end of last fall's season. She has performed on live NBC TV; she was one of two poets who got the opportunity to visit New York and perform on stage at the Apollo as part of the America SCORES Poetry SLAM!; and this summer, she helped celebrate the renovation of a local Starbucks store with another public appearance.

Ayanna's hit poem is called "What Happened to the Dream?"

Check out her performance from the Gala.
