College student reflects on her time with DC SCORES

Two weeks ago at Kelly Miller soccer camp, participants got a surprise visit.

Akylae Platter, now enrolled at Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C., stopped by her old school and the camp she used to attend.

Akylae was impressed with how much the camp had grown and how enthusiastic participants were despite sticky-hot conditions. She said she had returned to Kelly Miller because that's where, during DC SCORES sessions, she learned to express herself and think creatively -- traits she wasn't receiving during the school day.

Akyle's focus is now on music, as she takes classes at Salem and is a member of the marching band at Wake Forest University.

Watch the video above to hear Akylae speak about the impact DC SCORES had on her growing up.
