Bragging rights will be on the line Saturday morning at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
And, if you take a more casual view, a chance to play a lot of soccer for a good cause.
The 10th annual DC SCORES Cup -- sponsored by D.C. United and DrinkMore Water -- will feature a tournament-record 26 teams squaring off in group play, with the playoffs taking place in the afternoon.
One hundred percent of teams’ entry fees and individual donations through Razoo -- inspired by a fundraising contest to win an Amazon Kindle and Modell’s gift cards -- benefit DC SCORES’ 800-plus students.
This year, the field features many of the regular companies and firms, including defending champion Marriott, but also has several new competitors. Some of the companies, such as Kirkland & Ellis LLP, have played in previous years. Others, such as Alston & Bird, will be playing in their first Cup.
Regardless of the outcome on the SoccerPlex’s turf fields, Saturday promises to be a fun day for the over 400 D.C.professionals involved. In addition to playing at least five games, participants will be treated to a brief DC SCORES presentation; lunch provided by new team Occasions Catering; and Sport and Spine Rehab will attend to any medical needs throughout the day.
