Lincoln girls, Oyster-Adams boys advance to Capital Cup Championship

While all DC SCORES schools are putting in final preparations for the upcoming Poetry Slam! (Dec. 2 and 3), two middle school teams will take another big stage this Tuesday.

The Lincoln Middle School girls team and the Oyster-Adams Bilingual School boys team will play for the DC SCORES Capital Cup Championship at Wilson Senior High School. Lincoln will take on Alice Deal Middle School at 4 p.m., followed by Oyster-Adams playing Deal in the boys championship at approximately 5:15 p.m.

Both DC SCORES teams advanced to the title game with thrilling victories late Friday afternoon, capping off their wins just as darkness descended on the city. At Tubman, the Lincoln girls scored with just 5 minutes remaining – off a brilliant throw-in, followed by a pass and then a shot – to win 1-0 over Chavez Parkside, which showed a lot of heart playing with a small number of players.

It was a great setting for Lincoln, which shares a building with Bell High School just blocks from Tubman. When the final whistle blew, fans stormed the field as if Lincoln had won the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Oyster-Adams, in just its first year playing in the DC SCORES middle-school league, played at Paul Public Charter School in the late-afternoon twilight. The play was fierce, but clean, and Oyster willed its way to a thrilling, intense 2-1 victory.

Oyster took a 2-0 lead about midway through the second half, but the going tightened up considerably when Paul scored to cut its deficit in half. From there, Oyster had to make several strong defensive plays and goalie saves to preserve the hard-fought victory.

And now, Lincoln and Oyster will get to play on the large Wilson field for a chance at the Capital Cup Championship.

Come cheer them and the Deal teams on Tuesday as we reach the culmination of another exciting DC SCORES soccer season.
