If you haven’t heard about what DC SCORES Executive Director Amy Nakamoto organized and then executed in late June, it’s worth a brief recap.
Facing a large budget shortfall, Nakamoto quickly put together a fundraiser during which she juggled a soccer ball for 12 hours on consecutive days on a busy DC street corner – in 100-degree, stifling heat. She only took breaks to make calls to donors, and by 7 p.m. of the second day over $50,000 had been raised.
The Kick, Click, & SCORE Challenge was truly unique, a first-of-its kind soccer fundraiser. An extremely creative – and very successful – fundraiser.
Now, it’s a FINALIST for a DC Stay Classy Award in the Most Creative Fundraiser category. A perfect fit, right? Until Oct. 22, it’s up to you, our supporters, to VOTE for us – it’s really simple and quick – and spread the word through all your communication channels.
If we beat out the four other District charities, we’ll advance to the national round of voting with a chance to win $10,000 for our nearly 800 poet-athletes and be nationally recognized at a gala in San Diego.
This is a great opportunity for DC SCORES to gain publicity for the service we provide throughout the District, and all it takes is a few minutes of all our supporters’ time.
One of our core values is Teamwork, and as clichéd as it sounds, we’re going to need an all-around team effort to win this award.
