If you are a sports fan, the DC SCORES Soccer Ball is the place for you Wednesday night. There might not be any March Madness action, but the annual fundraiser inside Union Station will feature local sports celebrities as well as sports-centered auction items.
The emcee of the Soccer Ball (buy tickets) will be Ivan Carter, a big name within the District’s sports journalism industry. Carter spent four years writing for The Washington Post, covering college basketball and the Washington Wizards during their playoff years. Then last April, Carter joined Comcast SportsNet as the host of “Washington Post Live,” a sports talk show about the teams in the District.
So if you want to hear an opinion or know anything related to DC sports, Carter is the man to listen to. And Wednesday, he’ll run the Soccer Ball, introducing speakers and performers and encouraging guests to bid on the silent auction items to support DC SCORES (more on that later).
Carter won’t be the only sports figure in attendance, however. A host of local professional soccer players will attend the event, including Brittany Bock and Alex Singer of the Washington Freedom and D.C. United players. And those are just the confirmed players. Don’t be surprised to see other local pro athletes inside Union Station among the hundreds of guests.
But back to the auction items. While there will be dozens of packages to bid on – some pricey, but some cheap and affordable for anyone; and some with thick ties to this city, such as a Joe Theismann autographed football, as just one example – we have put together five super packages.
Guests can buy tickets – one for $25, two for $50, three for $75, five for $100, etc. – and then drop them into any of the items’ containers for a chance, or two or five, at going home with one, or more, of the prizes. Below are descriptions of the packages, whose winners will be announced after the spoken-word performance by the students of Arts & Technology Academy.
