Imagine a simple, two-hour happy hour that is not only a great time, but can also do the following:
Provide classroom supplies for 800 kids for a year of after-school programming.
OR
Pay for a soccer team to be bused to games for a year.
OR
Send eight kids to summer camp who couldn’t otherwise afford to go.
Well, last week that was reality, as the DC SCORES winter happy hour sponsored by Coca-Cola at One Lounge raised $3,100 for our after-school program. More than 100 people braved the snowy conditions and came out to support our 800 poet-athletes; one lucky attendee took home an iPad; and a handful of others won prize packages to local businesses each valued at around $200.
We couldn’t have pulled off the fundraiser without the incredible work of our Host Committee. Jessica Rosen, the chair, Pharis Owens and Erika Brown took dozens of hours out of their busy lives to commit to putting on an event for DC SCORES. They made it happen.
Of course, an event needs a location, and One Lounge was a gracious and accommodating host.
And it couldn’t have been successful without the generosity of 20 local businesses who donated the gift certificates and items that made up the night’s raffle packages.
Thanks to everyone who made the night special and rewarding for our program. As you can see above, even a small fundraiser can make a huge difference.
