A new level of volunteerism: DC SCORES supporter Keith Donohue to travel the country giving back

'Tis the season for giving, but come February a longtime supporter of DC SCORES will take it to a whole new level.

Keith Donohue, a District native who has fundraised for and promoted DC SCORES on many occasions, is preparing to take off on an ambitious mission of volunteering, volunteering some more, and then throwing in a little more, yes, volunteering.

Donohue is the founder of Positive Present® – “an organization devoted to positive affirmations and making a positive impact through philanthropy” – and starting in February, he will embark on the organization’s first project called “50Give.”

Over the course of five to six months, Donohue will devote his time to helping nonprofits, charities and other worthy causes in all 50 states, as well as the District, Canada and Mexico.

Yes, you heard that right. He will begin in San Diego, driving his Honda Element, and reach every single state (including Alaska and Hawaii by airplane) as well as Mexico and Canada.

“I have a passion for helping others and fundraising,” Donohue said. “I hope this trip will encourage others to give unconditionally and also provide positive awareness for inspiring organizations that strive to make this world better.”

Donohue has already done plenty to help DC SCORES’ poet-athletes. Using his tremendous PR skills – not to mention his huge heart – Donohue has heavily promoted several campaigns we’ve been a part of and helped with fundraisers. It’s hard to measure the contribution he, alone, has made to this organization.

So, clearly, we know from first-hand experience that every nonprofit or charity that is lucky enough to have Donohue’s assistance will feel blessed and see tangible benefits in no time.

“Keith Donohue has taken his commitment to the DC SCORES mission to new levels over the past three years,” said Executive Director Amy Nakamoto. “Unsolicited, Keith has helped directly or indirectly raise a lot of money, awareness and excitement for the work we are doing with youth in DC through soccer and creative writing.

“He makes being in the ‘charity business’ even more rewarding than it already is.”

While Donohue is helping thousands of others, he needs your help, too. Simply visit the 50Give website, where you can learn more and support the trip through financial contributions and sponsorships; food donations, accommodations; press/promotions; volunteer assistance; and, of course, charitable and nonprofit suggestions.
